Please enter your search criteria to find photos in our database. You can search either on the photo description, the location where the photo was taken, or both. The program will automatically search for your string anywhere in the field. For example, entering "RICHMOND" for the location will return entries in "RICHMOND", "POINT RICHMOND" and "RICHMOND BRIDGES", whereas entering "WALNUT" will return only "WALNUT CREEK".
Try to use as simple a search string as possible, but not too broad. Using "VEALE" will return all photos where the description contains the word VEALE, such as "Sheriff Veale", "R. R. Veale", "Sheriff R. R. Veale", etc. If, however, you use "Sheriff Veale" as your description search term, only those descriptions that contain the phrase "Sheriff Veale" exactly. In the case above, only photos using the first description will be returned.
As of November, 2018, a "long" description of each photo has been added to our online database and search engine. However, we are also restricting your answer to the first 1,000 matches found. The header on the next page will reflect the number of matches displayed, as well as the total matches found, if greater than 1,000. If you have more than 1,000 matches, you may want to consider narrowing your search, either by entering a location as well as a description, or making the description a little narrower, for example, using "SHERIFF VEALE" as opposed to just "VEALE" or "SHERIFF".
